Antiviral Activity Tests

Viruses are the smallest infectious agents that are obligate intracellular parasites and reproduce by replication. These structures have the characteristics of adhering to surfaces, hanging in the air, contaminating by respiration and contact, and prolonging their life and effect times by mutating. Cleaning a surface with mechanical or non-mechanical processes removes organic matter such as dirt and debris, but does not kill such microorganisms.

Today, the use of products that we call disinfectants has gained great importance in order to eliminate viruses or other harmful microorganisms.

Disinfection is defined as an antimicrobial treatment used to destroy or inhibit the growth of pathogenic microorganisms on surfaces or in fluids. Disinfectant products are used in many different sectors such as, textile industry, ventilation systems, heating-cooling systems, pool water, paint materials, surface and hand disinfectants.

Disinfectants are classified according to their degree of effect on microorganisms, their mechanism of action, their chemical structure,

and their areas of use.

Within the SIA Analysis Laboratories, we serve you in order to perform antiviral activity tests with internationally accepted standard methods such as TS EN 14476+A2, ISO 18184 and ISO 21702 according to GLP principles.

Required tests are determined with special programs we have prepared for our customers according to product types and within the scope of GLP, antiviral activity tests are carried out by our expert staff in Microbiology, Virus-Cell Culture Test Units.

Our Cell Culture laboratory performs characterization and cytotoxicity studies on host cells used in antiviral activity tests.

Virus strains and host cells used in antiviral activity tests in our Virology and Cell Culture Laboratory were obtained from national/international culture collections and we perform Antiviral Activity Tests on the following viruses and bacteriophages;

Poliovirus Type 1 Strain Sabin (LSc-2ab)
Human adenovirus 5 (ATCC® VR-5)
Murine norovirus 1 (ATCC® VR-1937)
Murine norovirus strain S99 Berlin
Influenza A virus (H3N2) (ATCC® VR-1679)
Influenza A virus (H1N1) (ATCC® VR-1469)
Rodent protoparvovirus 1 (ATCC® VR-1346)
Rotavirus A (ATCC® VR-2018)
Enterovirus E (ATCC® VR-248)
