Virucidal Activity Tests

Virucidal activity is the capacity of a product or active substance to reduce the number of infectious virus particles of the respective test organisms under defined conditions.

Antivirals are used to control or eradicate viral infection. Recently, due to the increase in viral infections, it has become important to determine the virucidal effects of disinfectants.

Validated test methods are used to evaluate virucidal efficacy. Depending on the product type, structure, and physical properties, the test methods used may vary. It is the most widely used TS EN 14476+A2 test method in disinfectants.

In this protocol, specific virus strains are propagated using cell culture. In the next step, test suspensions are prepared and exposed to the product for the specified contact time. The test is considered valid if the difference between the initial virus titer and the decrease in virus titer at the end of the period is 4 logarithms or more.
