Implantation Test
The implantation test is performed within the scope of ISO 10993-6 standard to evaluate the local pathological effects that implantable medical devices or materials may cause after implantation. Implantation testing can be done short term and long-term. This circumstance is associated with and justified the clinical use of the medical device.
Implantation testing can be done to evaluate both absorbable and non-absorbable materials. The implantation test is evaluated by histopathological analysis of the implantation site at the end of the implantation period. Systemic parameters can also be used in case of any systemic effects.
Implantation can be done subcutaneously, intramuscularly, and intraosseously, or the application site can be selected according to the clinical application of the medical device (eg, intravascular adhesive applications).
