Blood Compatibility
Biocompatibility tests performed within the scope of biological risk assessment of medical devices and requested to be applied on medical devices that come into contact with blood (e.g. intravenous catheters, hemodialysis sets, blood transfusion sets, vascular prostheses, hemostats, etc.) are carried out in accordance with the principles in the ISO 10993-4 standard.
This test measures the damage to red blood cells when exposed to medical devices, materials, or their extracts and is compared to positive and negative controls. In this context, tests such as prothrombin time test (PT), Partial Thromboplastin Time Test (PTT), Thrombogenicity, Aggregation, Complement System Activation and hemolysis are performed. In SIA Analysis Laboratories, hemolysis testing is carried out by expert personnel within the scope of the GLP declaration of conformity.
