Micronucleus Test

Micronuclei are formations that arise during the mitotic division of the cell, are not included in the main nucleus, and originate from whole chromosomes or acentric chromosome fragments.

The in vitro micronucleus test (OECD 487)  is a genotoxicity test used to detect nuclear materials that do not join one of the two nuclei (micronucleus) formed after mitosis following the division of cells in mammalian cell culture with a high dividing capacity in the presence or absence of S9, the metabolic activation agent of polar and/or apolar extract prepared from medical devices. The statistical difference is investigated according to positive and negative controls.
